About the Annual Modern Band Summit

The Modern Band Summit is a professional development conference like no other. For three days, music educators from all over the country come together to learn, teach, play music, and experience the modern band curriculum. Comprising hundreds of teachers, district and state arts administrators, university professors, artists, advocacy groups, instrument manufacturers, and other experts, it is a congregation of those passionate about the rising tide of culturally-responsive music education. Whether you’re a new teacher or a seasoned educator, the Modern Band Summit is the only conference you need to achieve your professional development goals! You will leave with hands-on experience, new tools, and innovative techniques to transform your classroom and impact even more students.

Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is the event?

Modern Band Summit 2023 is from July 12 – 14, 2023 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. For new teachers, there is a pre-conference day on July 11 with our Modern Band 101 Workshop.

Can we attend the Summit virtually?

Yes, for 2023 we will have an option to attend either in-person in Colorado, or virtually from your computer.

When will registration open?

Registration for Modern Band Summit and on-campus lodging will open in March 2023.

How do I know if I'm an active Music Will teacher (and therefore eligible for the reduced registration rate)?

If you registered your students through our website for the 2022-2023 school year and completed a MB101 workshop at some point, you are an active teacher. If you are eligible to register, but have not yet, or you’re unsure of your status, inquire at [email protected] and we can assist.

How much does MBS 2023 cost?

Music Will Teachers

Prices will increase after 6/1

In addition to registration rates above, and your personal travel costs, on campus lodging ranges from $150 – $400 based on room type and length of stay.

Eligiblilty for the Music Will Teacher rate requires previously completing a MB101 workshop and current registration of your students in the 2022-2023 school year.

How can I apply to present?

The application period is open, apply here. Application submissions close on March 16, 2023. If you applied to present, please wait to register for the conference until application submission accepatances have been confirmed as presenters will have a waived registration cost.

Do you offer scholarships?

We sometimes are able to offer limited scholarships in select markets thanks to our generous donors and supporters. Scholarship opportunities will be posted by late March 2023.

Once posted: Check if you’re eligible for one of our scholarship markets. Scholarship funding is provided as a reimbursement following the Summit via direct deposit.
